“healthy technique is the same, whether you are singing classical or pop. It’s how you apply it that is different.”
I am an experienced voice instructor specializing in teaching heathy vocal technique to singers in both pop and classical styles. I teach at the VSO School of Music as well as my home studio in Deep Cove. Beginners through professionals welcome.
About me: I am a classically-trained vocalist who has a dual career singing in both classical and popular styles.
As a classical singer, I have had an international career, appearing with major opera companies, concert organizations and festivals in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia (including the Metropolitan, New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles Operas). Since moving to Vancouver from New York and Los Angeles in 2005, I have appeared with local organizations including Erato Ensemble, City Opera Vancouver, Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Vancouver Pro Musica, and Vancouver New Music. Currently I specialize in the art song repertoire and contemporary composition.
In the popular music field, I have released albums under my own name as well as appearing as a guest on other artists’ projects. I am the lead singer-songwriter for the Vancouver roots-rock band Horse Opera. I also have extensive experience in musical theatre, jazz, and other genres.
As a private voice instructor, I specialize in teaching classical technique to pop, theatre and classical singers. You will learn healthy vocal production while retaining and developing your personal style. I understand the difference between singing with and without microphones, and can help you develop your ability to sightread, harmonize and improvise.
I received my Master of Music degree with a specialization in Voice from the University of Southern California (where I was named Outstanding Graduate from the School of Music) and my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Voice from California State University, Long Beach. I am a member of Canadian and U.S. Equity, ACTRA, AFTRA, ASCAP and AGMA.
